Video Game Release Date Calendar Added
It's as much for me as it is you.

I really was tired of looking up the release date of games by thumbing through countless sites to find the info I needed. That is when I noticed that Google has the most amazing online calendar available for this kind of stuff. It allows me to embed it into almost any format. Also, since I am a fan of many other games besides the survival horror genre, as I am sure many of you are as well, I simply added release dates for all games as well. Thanks, and I hope this is as helpful to you as it is to me. You can access the calendar in in the main navigation or you can click HERE.

Silent Hill 5 featuring real-time world deterioration
Posted Aug 28th 2007 11:00AM by Nick Doerr

The latest issue of EGM details the return of this fan-favorite horror title. Since Silent Hill 5 involves a military veteran recovering from his wounds at a hospital, it's clear this game shares a lot more with the franchise's inspiration film, Jacob's Ladder. The grain filter will make its return in this entry to the series, which a lot of fans are very happy about. However, that's not the interesting part.

The Havok engine is being used for real-time physics within most environments. Bumping into chairs, desks, weak floor boards, with produce noises that alert enemies to your presence. We're sure domino effects are likely too: knocking a chair into a table could knock a lamp down and break it (where there is, of course, a hidden key). Much like the film, Silent Hill 5 is going to employ real-time world deterioration. The transition between the normal world and the world of ... well, the messed-up world, will be visible in real-time and you can move the camera to check it out in great detail. That's some exciting stuff.

A final note is on the revival of boss battles. Bosses have been fairly tame in the Silent Hill games outside of the first and third, which featured large, monstrous bosses. The Collective, the game's developers, want to bring epic boss battles back into the game, relating the experiences to Zelda-like encounters. We're interested to see how that works. We'll keep you up to date as more info gets released.

Silent Hill V, Resident Evil 5 & Chronicles
Trailer, trailers, trailers. Just watch, it explains everything much better than I could.

Let's start with Silent Hill V shall we? The video below is no different than the teaser trailer posted, except that this version was shown at E3 and followed by comment from William Mortal, Producer Konami Digital Entertainment. His comments offer a bit more insight to the games story, gameplay, and the fact that SH V will sport a completely new soundtrack from Akira Yamoaka.

Next we will catch the E3 2007 Extended Trailer HD version of Resident Evil 5. Chris Redfield returns to the front lines in the fight against Umbrella, and this time he is intent on finishing the fight.

Here is a little E3 bonus material that I just couldn't help but to add. The troubled history of Raccoon City has been recollected into one tidy package you won't want to miss.

Update on what's happening here at TBE.
So much to post, so little time.

First of all, my sincerest apologies to all of our regulars that have come back day after day for the last month only to be met with the same damned information. I am sure you hear it all the time, but I really am a busy man lately. I work full time as a web/graphic art designer and the number of projects that we now have are many and time consuming. Also, I just finished up recording a new CD with my band and I have been tucked away in a dark hole cutting track after track until my head was about to explode. Not to mention that our band decided to go with all of my artwork for the CD packaging, posters, press packs, cards, postcard, t-shrits, hats, etc... All of this coupled with a full touring schedule with my band and trying to maintain, what is in my opinion the perfect family, certainly has left me with not alot of time for my hobbies. I realize that I take on too many projects in life, but I want to experience as much as I can in this life before it is over. So hang in there, things will slow down a bit in the next couple of weeks and I will be able to spend a bit more time with TBE and finish up with some much needed repairs and updates here.

E3 2007: Silent Hill 5 Announced
Next installment of horror franchise coming to PS3 and 360 in 2008.
by Jeff Haynes

July 11, 2007 - Konami announced Wednesday that the latest installment in their Silent Hill franchise would be coming to PS3s and 360s in 2008. Silent Hill 5 marks a return to the creepy, fog shrouded town with a new combat system, atmospheric visuals and original character exploring its haunted streets. Silent Hill 5 follows Alex Shepherd, a war veteran that returns home after a tour of duty overseas. While investigating the disappearance of his younger brother Joshua, he finds himself drawn through a small community known as Shepherd's Glen to the barren and eerie streets of Silent Hill.

Silent Hill 5 will allow players to use a new and enhanced combat system to perform offensive and defensive maneuvers against the creatures that inhabit the towns of Silent Hill and Shepherd's Glen. Players will have to solve environmental puzzles as well, taking cues from their surroundings to proceed through the game. Bolstered by Akira Yahmaoka's original soundtrack, Silent Hill 5 will feature a haunting score and sound effects.

According to Brian Christian, Vice President of Product Development at Konami, "Silent Hill 5 is an international, cross-cultural production, with leading development talent from around the globe collaborating to raise the bar even higher for this incredible series. With gritty graphics and sound that create a haunting atmosphere to all-new visceral gameplay elements, Silent Hill 5 truly epitomizes the extent to which next-generation hardware can enhance the player's overall gaming experience."

E3 07: Silent Hill 5 spooking 360, PS3
Konami goes multiplatform for its horror-survival series' next-generation debut, set for sometime next year.
By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot
Posted Jul 11, 2007 8:12 pm PT

SANTA MONICA, California--Today at Konami's record-settingly brief E3 Press Event, producer William Ortell announced the company is developing Silent Hill 5 for "next-generation" platforms. The announcement marks the continuation of the long-running horror-survival series, which made its debut on the original PlayStation in 1999. Over the next several years, the franchises made its way onto the PC, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and the PlayStation Portable. It also arrived on the big screen in the form of the Silent Hill film, which was successful enough to spawn a sequel (due out next year).

Soon after the Konami event's literal 15 minutes were up, the publisher officially announced that Silent Hill 5 is in development for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Currently set for a 2008 release, the game will follow a veteran who returns to his hometown to search for his brother who has mysteriously vanished. As is often the case in Silent Hill games, his quest leads him to the titular ghost town, where eeriness is in full effect.

Konami is bringing back the sinister atmosphere and grotesque inhabitants of Silent Hill for the fifth game, but other aspects of the game are being changed. Specifically, the publisher said the game will include a new combat system, with an array of defensive and offensive techniques. The game will also sport an original soundtrack from series producer and sound director Akira Yamaoka.
